What is the golden month

The Golden Month is an educational project to encourage better care of mothers in the first few weeks after childbirth. We are talking to mothers and elders with different post natal customs from around the world, with the aim to raise awareness about what is good post natal care. ‘Golden Month’ is the name the Chinese give to this time which is precious for the mother’s recovery and the baby’s future health..

Current posts are found in the lefthand section, old posts can be found below in the directory. The directory contains all posts (current and old) sorted into folders representing the subject of the post.

How the project is being conducted

We are talking to women/groups of women from Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Africa about their own experiences of being cared for and about their traditional practices. We also talk to men about their roles of support at this time. The value of good post natal care for mothers is revealed and the challenges in maintaining it are discussed. The media used are written, audio and film.

Who the project is intended for

Raising awareness of this issue is relevant to all women, men and their families/communities who are involved in bringing up children. It is also important for healthcare workers and all of us who live in a multicultural society. We can learn from these practices from other societies and their knowledge can inspire us to practical solutions.
